Raksha Shakti University
Sangath—Vastu Shilpa Consultants / Lavad, Gujarat / 235 Acres / Completed / Competition Winners / 2016—17
Role: I worked on the masterplan, particularly three key parts: the auditorium, administrative cluster and dining blocks. I contributed to design, detail and construction.
Raksha Shakti University is India’s first Police Science University. It is the first of its kind to be initiated in India, with the aim of conducting courses in the fields of police science and internal security. Vastu Shilpa Consultants won a national competition initiated by the government of Gujarat. The site is located in Lavad, northeast of Ahmedabad. The Meshwo River abuts the southern edge of the site, which is heavily contoured. The masterplan aims to preserve existing vegetation and creates mechanisms to retain water on site. The introduction of new water bodies define ridges and planes on which the campus is developed, shaping its composition and morphology. The design of the masterplan emerges from defining two axes laid across in the north-south and east-west directions, creating a spine around which programs are organized. The axis connects the auditorium, parade ground and academic block, with the housing on the southern edge of the site. The east-west axis connects staff and student housing.
